Norsk FAQ

Basics

What is an interpreter booth?

A sound-isolated cabin where simultaneous interpreters work during conferences. It includes console, headset, ventilation and lighting. Tolkeboks.no rents ISO 4043-certified booths across Norway.

Do you provide interpreters as well?

No. We are an equipment and technical production company. The public list at /en/interpreters embeds Tolkeregisteret data (tolkebevis, categories A/B/C only). Source: Tolkeregisteret. We can point you to interpreter agencies when needed.

Is simultaneous interpreting the same as translation?

No. Translation is written and after the fact. Simultaneous interpreting happens in real time, often from an ISO 4043 cabin. See /en/guides/simultaneous-vs-translation.

Delivery

Do you speak English and invoice in English?

Yes. Project communication in English is standard. Invoices can be issued in English on request — email kontakt@tolkeboks.no. Norwegian MVA (25%) still applies and is shown separately.

How quickly do you reply?

Normally within a couple of days. Call +47 23 14 04 02 or email kontakt@tolkeboks.no.

Why are there no prices on the website?

Every event has a unique mix of languages, days, venue and tech. We quote after scoping — we do not publish fixed price lists.

Tech

What is the difference between IR and UHF?

IR transmits via light and cannot pass walls — highly confidential. UHF works through walls and over longer distances. Both can carry many language channels; we recommend based on venue and security.

Can remote interpreters work from outside Norway?

Yes (RSI). We handle the Norway-side technical path so RSI platforms can connect interpreters anywhere.

What does ISO 4043 require in short?

Requirements for workstation size, sound insulation, ventilation and working light for mobile interpreter booths. See /en/guides/iso-4043-interpreter-booth.

What is the difference between hybrid interpreting and RSI?

RSI is remote simultaneous interpreting. Hybrid often means a physical hall plus digital attendance. Both need a clean AV path. See /en/guides/hybrid-rsi-explained.

Categories

What are interpreter categories A, B and C?

A: state authorisation + bachelor’s in interpreting. B: state authorisation + foundational credits / equivalent. C: state authorisation. Our embedded list shows only A–C with tolkebevis. Source: Tolkeregisteret.

AI

When is AI too weak for simultaneous interpreting?

High-risk settings (court, board, negotiations, politics) where error, missing non-verbal cues and lack of live correction create business, reputation or legal risk. See /en/ai-and-interpreting.
