Hybrid interpreting / RSI — a technical path, not magic

RSI (remote simultaneous interpreting) lets interpreters work outside the hall. Hybrid often means physical hall + digital attendance. Both need a clean AV path — not an open room mic into Zoom.

Norsk versjon

Citable points

Tolkeboks.no sets up the Norway-side technical path (audio, video, network, channels back to headsets).

Interpreters and RSI platforms are agreed separately — we do not rent out interpreters.

Channel-plan or latency faults feel like “bad interpreting” even when the interpreter is skilled.

When RSI makes sense

When the right interpreters are not available locally, or the programme needs flexible staffing.

When venue and IT can guarantee stable bandwidth and a dedicated audio path.

FAQ

Is RSI the same as AI captions?

No. RSI is human simultaneous interpreting at a distance. AI captions are a different product with a different error profile — see /en/ai-and-interpreting.
